The nation constructed the Direttissime railways connecting major cities on devoted electrified high-speed track (although at speeds lower to what at present would be thought of high-speed rail) and developed the fast ETR 200 trainset. The only exception was the Direttissima between Florence and Rome, but it was not conceived to be a part of a high-speed line on a large scale. The second fastest operating conventional trains are the AGV 575 and the Frecciarossa a thousand with most commercial speed of 360 km/h . As these trainsets are each working on the Italian high speed network they are restricted to the national track speed of 300 km/h for commercial use.
