Of course, it is a matter of personal interest and an individual can define what they deem valuable and hence collectible. However, there are a few common features and qualities that uniquely identify collectible items. The first and probably most common collectible cars fall in the classic collectibles category. According to the Classic Car Club of America, a classic is any vehicle made in the period 1925 to 1948. For this vehicle to qualify as a classic, it should be fully restored or be able to run. This is just one criteria and they may be other ways of defining a classic car depending on what state you are in. For example, a state may define a classic vehicle is one that is 15 to 25 years old. Whichever the case, it is important for you to familiarize yourself with what is deemed as a classic before committing to a purchase. The other category of collectible cars is the antique collectibles. As you can already tell, the defining quality for an antique car is its age just as is the case with any other antique items. Similar to the classic collectibles, there is no uniform standard for how old a car should be to be considered an antique collectible. However, there are certain acceptable definitions for antique car such as the fact that the fact that the age span should run from 1886 to 1915. Others also qualify any car manufactured before 1950 as an antique collectible or any car that is 25 years or older.

Another quality of collectible cars that cuts across just about any collectible item is its rarity. Most collections are actually based on how rare certain item is to find. Therefore, when a certain type of car is quite rare or hard-to-find then it qualifies as a collectible car based on how rare it is. There are various reasons for car to be rare. For example, it could be that a car was used as a prototype for experimental purposes. In this case, very few of these are manufactured and this explains why they are rare and hard to find.
